Work closely with the Lead Nurse and associated clinical oncologists to develop the Acute Oncology Service to the highest professional standard Attend and contribute to regular meetings reviewing the functioning of the Acute Oncology Service, its operational policy and progress against peer review measures Maintain, document and store accurate records and collect relevant statistical information for the purpose of evaluating the service, in accordance with data protection guidance and legislation Assist in the monitoring and review of relevant standards/policies/guidelines informing and collaborating with other colleagues as appropriate To lead on policy and service development within a multidisciplinary team context To lead on the development and implementation of protocols for specialist area of work and for the wider healthcare community served by North Bristol Trust To be responsible for the gathering, analysis and evaluation of patient and other feedback to inform ongoing improvement in the patient experience in specialist area To be responsible for developing and coordinating job plans in order to maximise team effectiveness and efficiency To plan the provision of day to day organisational tasks for self and others To manage a highly complex caseload based on flexible principles, priorities and the care needs of patients To lead on responding to complaints and queries, and have a working awareness of the North Bristol NHS Trusts complaints procedure To maintain accurate and concise records that produce statistical data for the purpose of evaluation and development of the service To coordinate the collection of information and data required for annual reports and national peer review in collaboration with cancer services To keep accurate and up to date patient records To be responsible for the effective, efficient and safe use, maintenance and storage of resources and equipment used in the performance of the role Education The Senior Enhanced Nurse Practitioner for Acute Oncology will: In conjunction with the Lead Nurse identify the specific training/education/information needs of patients, carers and staff and respond to these needs wherever possible With support, participate in the planning, organisation and presentation of relevant education and training for all groups of staff involved in the care of patients with oncological emergencies Take responsibility for own personal and professional development and identify needs and objectives through the annual appraisal process Work within the Trusts guidelines for implementing clinical supervision by receiving clinical supervision and acting as a supervisor for others when required To lead on and participate in the planning and delivery of formal and informal specialist education programmes for patients, carers and all staff To lead on and participate in education forums locally To ensure that professional knowledge and practice is regularly updated Research: The Senior Enhanced Nurse Practitioner in Acute Oncology will: Apply research-based findings to nursing practice with support of other team members Participate in relevant oncology audit, research and development activity being undertaken by the acute oncology team on a uni/multi professional basis To promote a culture of evidence based practice To be involved with health promotion
