We have an exciting opportunity at Barnet Hospital to recruit a Band 6 Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to become part of an integrated Rapid Emergency and Acute Care Therapy Team (REACTT).
The successful candidates are required to be able demonstrate the Trust values, the responsibilities of the job description and person specification. The persons applying for this position should have experience and skills in transdisciplinary working, be flexible and be able to work in the fast paced areas of the Emergency Department, Assessment units and Same Day Emergency Floor and Clinics.
We are seeking enthusiastic and passionate therapists, who are keen to develop their specialist clinical knowledge and management skills. The successful candidates should be forward thinking and pro-active with excellentorganisationaland clinical skills within the fast paced Emergency Department setting, to facilitate admission avoidance and safe discharges. Good communication skills and the ability to make autonomous decisions under pressure are also required. The successful applicant will be required to work 37.5 hours a week within a 7 day and extended hour service.
The Therapy Department will support the successful applicants by means of regular supervision, appraisal and training.
·Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and work in accordance with the standards, policies, and procedures established within the Rapid Emergency and Acute Care Therapy (REACT) clinical area.
· To provide an advanced standard of therapy assessment and treatment of a specialist caseload within the areas of the Emergency Department (ED), Adult Assessment Unit, (AAU), and the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Floor and Clinics to patients, carers and families without direct supervision.
· To work in a trans-disciplinary therapy team including other physiotherapists, occupational therapists, therapy support workers, dieticians and speech and language therapists.
· To work with patient’s families or carers to provide an advanced level of support, education and expectation regarding the outcome of the hospital attendance.
· To supervise, teach and appraise Band 5 therapists and support workers.
· Included in the 7 day working roster, working up to 1 weekend every 4 weeks, plus 2 Bank Holidays per annum. Additionally the therapist will be included in the extended hours rota covering an 8am-8pm service.

1. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· To be professional, legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care and support more junior staff to do likewise.
· To undertake comprehensive assessments of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations or multiple pathologies, using clinical reasoning skills and a variety of assessment techniques to provide an accurate analysis of their condition.
· To be able to analyse clinical and social information from a range of sources and integrate this into your assessment in order to identify goals, develop a treatment plan and deliver patient centred care.
· To deliver effective, evidence based therapy treatment that is modified to reflect the patient’s on-going needs.
· To actively participate in the planning of complex discharges.
· To maintain accurate and comprehensive treatment records in line with departmental, professional and Trust standards of practice.
· To maintain effective communication in all key-working relationships by providing and receiving information, orally, in writing and electronically
· To represent the REACT team and/ or individual patients at multi disciplinary meetings, to ensure the delivery of a coordinated multi disciplinary service, and integrate therapy treatment into the treatment programme. This will include discussion of patient care, patient progress and involvement in discharge planning
2. RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTS
· To be responsible for own practice and accountable for all aspects of therapy treatment and care delivered to the patient.
· To be responsible for maintaining evidence based clinical practice both for self and band five physiotherapist /support worker members of the team under supervision
· To be able to motivate and persuade patients with a range of conditions to work with treatment programmes and work towards treatment goals.
· To organise and lead family meetings and case conferences as required in order to facilitate realistic goal setting and appropriate discharge planning.
· To be a proactive contributor at multidisciplinary team meetings.
· To provide advice to medical and nursing staff regarding patient’s functions/conditions; and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
· To participate in the weekend and public holiday services as stated in the departmental policy.
· To be responsible for safe use of all equipment used in course of work including equipment/appliances used by patients under care.
