We are looking for experienced Paediatric Junior Sisters/Charge Nurses to join our friendly, forward-thinking team.
Our Paediatric Emergency Department & Assessment Unit are seeking to recruit an individual who is competent in the high dependency care of the acutely injured or unwell children and have emergency department skills and experience.
Demonstrating good communication and a professional manner will be paramount in all aspects of your work, as well as a desire to identify, implement and evaluate new methods of work and patient care.
Main duties of the job
1. To assess and initiate safe and effective care to children presenting to the urgent care setting.
2. To recognise a sick child and initiate immediate care as appropriate according to Trust Guidelines, policies and Protocols.
3. Assist patients to fulfil the activities of daily living.
4. Assist, plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of care in partnership with patients and relatives/carers.
5. Accurately observe patient's condition and initiate appropriate action.
6. Administer medication safely to patients, including IV and Controlled drugs.
7. Actively participate in effective discharge planning.
8. Maintain accurate, timely patient records and relevant data collection.
9. Communicate effectively with patients, visitors and staff.
10. Communicate effectively with all members of the Multi professional team.
11. Participate in patient/carer education e.g. advice about patient's condition/needs, health promotion in particular in relation to endocrine conditions.
12. To safely use clinical equipment relevant to own work area.
13. Have training to order investigations and blood tests within scope of practice.
14. Undertake venepuncture and Cannulation as appropriate once trained.

* RSCN/RN:Child (Part 8 or 15 of the NMC Register)
* Paediatric Advanced Life Support Certificate (APLS/EPALS)

* Leadership / management course (LEO)
* High Dependency Qualification

* Proven experience at Band 5
* Experience at co-ordinating Shifts
* Supervising and assessing students and junior members of the team

* Evidence of RCN Emergency Department Competencies level 1 achieved (or equivalent)
* Enhanced role - eg venepuncture, cannulation.
* Evidence of involvement in identifying and implementing change to enhance service provision
