About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Lead to join the Hinchingbrooke Hospital Redevelopment Programme (HHRP)—a once-in-a-generation project that will transform healthcare in Cambridgeshire and beyond. With an estimated value of £800 million, this ambitious programme is set to deliver a state-of-the-art, sustainable digital hospital, aligned with NHS Net Zero and Hospital 2.0 standards by 2030-31.
As HHRP Commercial Lead, you will play a pivotal role in leading procurement and commercial strategies for this major capital programme. Your expertise in strategic procurement, supplier management, and commercial governance will ensure the successful delivery of contracts while securing best value for money. You will oversee the full commercial lifecycle of the project, from planning and procurement through to contract management and supplier performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement a comprehensive commercial strategy aligned with Hospital 2.0 and sustainability goals.
* Lead procurement activities for contractors, consultants, and equipment, ensuring compliance with Public Contracts Regulations 2015 and the Procurement Act 2023.
* Establish and maintain supplier relationships, driving value for money and contract performance.
* Manage high-value tenders, ensuring efficient, transparent, and compliant procurement processes.
* Support business case development, risk mitigation strategies, and performance reporting to stakeholders, including NHSE and HM Treasury.
* Work collaboratively with senior leadership, finance teams, and project managers to integrate commercial planning into the wider HHRP programme delivery.
* Lead a commercial team, ensuring a high-performance culture and professional development opportunities.
About You
We are looking for an experienced commercial and procurement professional who thrives in complex, high-value healthcare projects. You will have a strong strategic mindset and the ability to navigate large-scale procurement frameworks while maintaining a focus on efficiency, quality, and sustainability.
Essential Skills & Experience:
✔ Professional procurement qualification (e.g. CIPS) or Master’s degree in a relevant field
✔ Extensive commercial management, procurement, or supply chain experience, ideally within healthcare or the public sector
✔ Proven track record in managing high-value contracts, supplier negotiations, and cost control
✔ Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage at all levels
✔ Experience of working within public procurement regulations and leading complex transformation programmes
