We are currently looking for a Technical Manager to join our friendly team based out of Tarmac Bayston Hill, near Shrewsbury covering the West Midlands region. This key role will manage the technical teams and day to day laboratory operations across the West Midlands, ensuring effective unit and product quality control is maintained in accordance with Health and Safety and technical specification requirements. The role is easily commutable from Shrewsbury, Telford, Bridgnorth, Oswestry, Welshpool, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Stafford, Whitchurch, Ludlow, Kidderminster, Dudley, Walsall, Cannock, Market Drayton, Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding areas. Role Responsibility Reporting directly to the Senior Technical Manager, the role of Technical Manager will be responsible for ensuring sampling and testing requirements are fully met and the laboratory is operated safely and efficiently. As Technical Manager you will adopt a hands on approach assisting Technicians where necessary, as well as the ability to stand in for the Senior Technical Manager as necessary. The role of Technical Manager will also be responsible for: Managing, developing and coaching the technical team and ensuring a high health and safety standard and culture is in place Provision of full and effective testing processes in accordance with standards and accreditation Identification of quality issues and the instigation of corrective action Effective technical team organisation, ensuring all business requirements are fulfilled Optimising products (cost and performance) as well as management of trial mixes, BOMS and SAP material files Working with operational teams to deliver solutions to slow moving stock and mineral related product issues Monitoring and assisting operations to meet the compliance and consistency criteria to ensure products conform Ensuring technical operational systems are adhered to in accordance with quality control procedures and SOX compliance Investigations of complaints, making recommendation for improvements and identifying root causes External commercial team support to key customers Technical expertise support to the internal sales department Performance management of the team including appraisals and PDPs Ensuring effective liaison and team working with the area operational and commercial teams The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate for the role of Technical Manager will have experience gained within the construction sector and will possesses knowledge of aggregate and asphalt testing and production. As well as strong knowledge of production processes and techniques, an understanding of geology and experience with hard rock quarries would be preferred. Suitable candidates for the role of Technical Manager will possess: Experience effectively managing a team including coaching and team development Passion to drive results Strong knowledge of legislation, test methods and material standards and specifications Good customer awareness and the ability to instil trust Knowledge of added value products and production process requirements Aptitude for problem solving and optimising work Ability to positively influence, persuade others and value differences Ability to communicate effectively Proven planning and organising ability Resilience and the ability to successfully manage conflict Formal Health & Safety Qualification preferred This Technician role is not a typical lab coat laboratory type of role it is a vital hands-on site-based role, wearing PPE and working in a small team closely supporting our operational asphalt plants.
