We are looking for an enthusiastic, versatile and caring person to join the existing Support Worker Team in the Radiology Department at Torbay Hospital.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who would like to work with patients in a busy hospital department. You will need to be flexible in your approach to this challenging and sometimes demanding role.
This full-time post role is based in Torbay Hospital, with some evening and frequent weekend working. It may also include duties in Community Hospital.
Main duties of the job
Your duties will include:
* Assisting patients during all parts of their visit to the department.
* Supporting the clinical staff in carrying out examinations.
* Preparation of examination rooms.
* Transport of patients.
* Participation in clerical duties.
You will be expected to train and become competent in the insertion and removal of intravenous cannulas.
Part of this role is rotational evening and weekend working, with some of our departments working an extended day up until 20:00. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in existing evening and weekend rotas.
You should have a good standard of general education and good IT skills. Prior care experience may be useful but not essential, depending on other relevant work history.

If successful, you will work in all areas of Radiology alongside Radiographers, Nurses, and Consultant Radiologists. You will carry out a varied range of tasks helping to deliver high-quality care. The key part of this role is direct support for patients during their visit to our department.
An excellent team working ethos is required to fulfil this role most effectively.
Job responsibilities
* Assist the Radiologist, Radiographer, or Nurse during patient examinations, assisting in the efficient control of workflow patterns within the department.
* Support patients during their visit to Radiology, being aware of their needs and escalating issues to qualified staff as appropriate.
* Support the delivery of high standards of patient care.
* Have good interpersonal skills and effectively communicate with patients/public, a wide variety of staff, including all radiology personnel, medical staff, nurses, healthcare professionals, support staff, and visiting equipment engineers.
* Have a basic understanding of the procedures carried out, in order to best support patients through the process.
