Job Profile: The Security Manager, reporting to the Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Lead (HSSE Lead), will be responsible for ensuring the SMR Project maintains the highest standards of security, covering physical, cyber, personnel, and nuclear security. This role forms part of the Safety, Licensing and Assurance function, which is accountable for the setting of standards and strategies for delivery to meet GBN’s HSSEQ policies, including risk and assurance, regulatory, consents, licensing and permitting, and quality.

This will provide you with an opportunity to be part of a team ensuring successful delivery of a First of a Kind (FOAK) UK SMR Project, helping to ensure it minimises its environmental impact whilst delivering cost-effective energy capacity. Develop and implement a comprehensive security strategy for the SMR Project, aligned with UK nuclear security regulations and government security policies.
Establish and maintain Security Management Plans (SMPs) and ensure integration with wider Safety and Assurance frameworks.
Oversee security risk assessments and ensure risk mitigation strategies are in place.
Ensure compliance with relevant UK nuclear security regulations, including Nuclear Industries Security Regulations (NISR) 2003, the Civil Nuclear Cyber Security Strategy and ONR Security Assessment Principles (SyAPs).
Act as the primary liaison with security regulators and other bodies, including the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), National Protective Security Authority (NPSA), and National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC).
Develop and maintain required security documentation, including Site Security Plans (SSP), Cyber Security & Information Assurance (CS&IA) frameworks, and Threat & Vulnerability Assessments.
Implement and oversee physical security measures, ensuring the protection of nuclear materials, facilities, and assets.
Work closely with the digital team to develop robust cyber security policies and protocols, ensuring compliance with government security classification guidelines.
Provide subject matter expertise during technical reviews, assurance stage gates, and other project milestone activities as required to enable the successful delivery of the SMR Project.
Conduct and maintain Security Threat & Risk Assessments (STRAs) to identify, evaluate, and mitigate security threats.
Oversee incident response planning, ensuring the Project is prepared to respond effectively to security breaches, cyber incidents, and physical threats.
Work with contractors and supply chain partners to ensure they comply with Project security requirements, including secure supply chain management and export control regulations.
Provide regular reports to the HSSE Lead, senior leadership, and government oversight bodies on security risks and mitigation measures.

Extensive experience in security management within nuclear, government, defence, or regulated industries.
Strong understanding of UK nuclear security regulations (NISR 2003, SyAPs, NPSA/NCSC guidelines).
Proven track record in managing complex security programmes, risk assessments, and crisis response.
Degree in Health & Safety, Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related field.
Membership of / registration with a recognised security professional body (e.g. The Register of Chartered Security Professionals)
