Senior Staff Nurse - Cardiac and Respiratory Ward

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our compassionate and driven team. You will need to be flexible, enthusiastic and passionate about cardiology and respiratory nursing showing commitment towards service improvement. You will work alongside the senior nursing team, ward manager, MDT and Matron to provide strong clinical leadership to the ward facilitating the delivery of high quality, compassionate patient centred care.
Our successful candidate will be able to work alongside the existing team in a leadership role to assist in the enhancement and development of Respiratory and Cardiology services, within a busy and acute environment. You will be in charge of the clinical shift and dedicated to ensuring the planning, implementation and evaluation of high standards of care embedding the Trust's behaviours and values.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate a high standard of nursing care incorporating research / evidence-based practice as appropriate.
2. Care for patients with a range of complex medical conditions, including those requiring chest drains, Optiflow, non-invasive ventilation (NIV), cardiac monitoring, and management of tracheostomies and laryngectomies.
3. Provide specialized care for patients with cystic fibrosis.
4. Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and other appropriate guidelines.
5. Develop and maintain effective communication between patients, relatives, medical and ward staff.
6. Ensure the safe administration and custody of drugs in accordance with National and hospital policies and guidelines.
7. Acknowledge limitations in knowledge and skills and seek advice from senior colleagues when necessary.
8. Assist in the maintenance and continuing development of protocols and standards of care to maximise patient care and safety.
9. Participate in the evaluation, research and audit of methods of care and implement findings as appropriate.
10. Be aware of current advances in clinical care and facilitate team members in the implementation of knowledge gained.
11. Manage and co-ordinate the ward or department in the absence of ward manager within allocated resources.
12. Ensure legible, written clinical documentation and nursing notes as well as computer data are maintained in line with NMC standards of record keeping.
13. Participate in the evaluation, audit and research of methods of care.
14. Prioritise and delegate effectively to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patients throughout the shift.
15. Act as a role model to peer groups, other health professionals and the general public at all times.
16. Take personal responsibility for own professional development and clinical updates in conjunction with individual performance review.
17. Supervise and mentor students in the clinical area.
18. Assist in the development and delivery of ward based teaching programmes.
19. Take an active role in advising patients, relatives and colleagues on issues of health promotion.
20. In conjunction with educational establishments assist in maintaining a clinical environment conducive to learning.
