The Highway Maintenance team are responsible for the routine maintenance of the roads, footway, signs, lines and street lights across Swindon which is set to increase 30% over the next five years as the Council delivers ambitious expansion plans, which are required to facilitate the growth and regeneration of Swindon. This provides homes, jobs, recreational opportunities and a high-quality environment for residents, visitors and employers alike.

Your next role
As a Highway Higher Skilled Electrician, you will be required to carry out all types of maintenance and fault-finding work associated with street lighting throughout the Borough.
You need to have good experience of working on both single and dual carriageway roads with traffic, with experience in street lighting electrical maintenance and knowledge of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
In addition, you must hold City & Guilds 2365 or 2357 or equivalent recognised qualification in electrical installation or electrical technology and NVQ level 3 in electrical installation or electrical technology to apply for this role.
You should be prepared to work in all weather and you will be asked to take part in an out of hours standby rota attending emergency situations to assess and repair.
There may also be the opportunity/requirement for you to work overtime as and when required and a driving licence is essential.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the performance of a customer-facing role).
