Pay Rate: £20.31 per hour PAYE
Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 5-6 months

The successful candidate will maintain and update benefit claims in response to information received from internal and external sources.
Key Responsibilities:
The processing of reported changes in circumstances affecting these applications.
Responding to non-urgent requests for information.
Carrying out complex assessments, including adjudicating on fraud and disputed assessments.
Reviewing and revising decisions made by self and others where required.
Providing written and face to face explanations of decisions and overpayments where requested.
Checking and providing feedback on the work of others.
Responding to urgent requests for updates or information about claims.
Supporting and coaching new entrants by sharing knowledge and experience, on an ad-hoc basis or by mentoring individuals.
Maximisation of opportunities for delivering outstanding service by effectively communicating with customers and stakeholders by telephone, email and by letter.
Contribution to service enhancement projects concerning work appropriate to this grade point.
Monitor service compliance with local guidance and legislation.
Qualifications:
Math’s and English GCSE or equivalent
Educated to degree level or equivalent.
Skills & Experience:
Minimum of 3 year’s experience as a Housing Benefit Officer.
Experience of working with two or more of the flowing client groups; homeless people, care leavers, ex-offenders, disabled people, vulnerable children and families, vulnerable people from black and minority ethnic groups, families with disabled children, older people.
Experience in Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction schemes.
Customer focused with an understanding of the importance of delivering excellent customer service.
Experience of working to targets and deadlines, with an understanding of the value of measuring performance.
Attention to detail, demonstrated through an accurate and methodical approach to work.
Ability to analyse and evaluate information provided by customers and to follow and adhere to processes.
Excellent telephone and communication skills, with an empathetic attitude towards customers and the ability to converse with citizens and provide complex information in accurate spoken English, or through a BSL interpreter and in writing.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite, Mosaic).
