Join us as a specialist radiographer and be part of our vibrant, friendly and inclusive Imaging Department. We are equipped with 2 GE systems, an IGE 520S in the Cath Lab, a GE Allia IGS7 in the Interventional suite & a Canon Ultimax i for general fluoroscopy.

It is an exciting time to join us with plans underway to build a dedicated Imaging Scanning Centre for CT, MRI & Ultrasound within the next 2 years as well as 2 new Community Diagnostic Centres which have recently opened in Milton Keynes. As well as the Interventional Suite & Cardiac Cath Lab, the department also CT, MRI, PACS & Trauma-Acute-General radiography & our expectation is that there will be a commitment to the out of hours service.

Main duties of the job
You must have excellent communication and organisational skills, a commitment to CPD and a practical knowledge of radiation protection, legislation, and health & safety requirements. A flexible approach to working is required. Above all, patient care must be at the forefront of your practice.
Our department supports role extension we have experienced radiographers reporting the axial & appendicular skeleton and chest & abdominal images. We are keen to explore other advanced practice within the department.
1. To work within Interventional Radiology (IR) and the Cardiology Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab).
2. The postholder will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team across all sites within MKUH (including CDC's), delivering a high standard of care to our patients, leaving them with a positive experience.
3. To proactively assist the section heads and their deputies with the operational management of both the IR and Cath Lab suites on a daily basis whilst fostering CQC standards of being safe, effective, caring, responsive to people's needs and well-led.
4. You should expect to evidence clinical competence in Cath Lab and IR, prior to supervising and teaching imaging workforce new to these specific modality areas.
5. When required participation in audit, research and development should be considered a requirement of the role.
6. Across 24/7, out of hours shifts will be rostered for IR, Cath Lab and trauma, acute and general radiography.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The ideal candidate would have experience of working in Interventional radiology and or cardiology but not essential as training will be provided.
You will work as part of our friendly teams to provide a high quality, responsive diagnostic and therapeutic service delivering excellent patient care in line with our Trust core values. As a specialist radiographer, you will be expected to maintain high clinical standards and share this practice with colleagues and students.
Student radiographers rotate through the department from the University of Hertfordshire and apprentice radiographers rotate through the department who study at the University of Exeter.
Clinical:
1. Work unsupervised, performing all IR and the Cath Lab examinations following imaging parameters set down in departmental protocols.
2. Liaise with referral source where clarification is required regarding the selection of the most clinically appropriate imaging examination and prioritise cases by urgent clinical need.
Operational responsibilities:
1. Liaise with other departments / wards within the hospital and various external sources to provide a quality service to patients and clinicians. Keeping them informed of any delays to patient throughput, which might result because of, for example excessive workload.
2. Create, maintain, and enhance working relationships with wards, clinicians, and staff.
Leadership & management responsibilities:
1. Deputise in the absence of senior staff such as IR or Cath Lab section heads or their deputies and be responsible for the smooth day to day running of both areas.
2. Be familiar with the range of technical applications available on the fluoroscopic imaging equipment.
Communication:
1. To assess specific communication needs of individual patients. To anticipate where communication difficulties might make completion of the IR and Cath Lab checklists impossible and implement alternative methods to ensure that patient safety is maintained.
2. Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their escorts prior to, during and after an examination.
Analytical and judgemental skills:
1. Able to synthesize complex referral details through analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of different imaging options.
2. Sufficient specialist IR and the Cath Lab skills should be possessed to amend exposure parameters in complex cases in a confident and competent manner.
Responsibilities for Human Resources:
1. To assist in the supervision and clinical instruction of undergraduate and newly appointed radiographic staff.
2. To undertake formalised assessments of undergraduate students and document findings in accordance with each academic institutions requirements.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential
* BSc (Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
* Health and Care Professions Council Registration
* Evidence of a sound level of computer literacy (MS Teams, word, outlook, power point and excel)
* Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS), radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving communications systems (PACS)
* Knowledge of a wide range of diagnostic imaging procedures
* Evidence of keeping informed of the current Interventional and Cath Lab imaging techniques and practices
* Knowledge of relevant national imaging standards (e.g., IR(ME)R 2017, IRR '17 and associated codes of practice)

* Possesses 6-month post qualification knowledge and experience as a radiographer.
