We are seeking an experienced Events Officer who will work as part of Rotherham Council’s Events Team leading on the delivery of a year-round outdoor events and festivals programme. This busy team is responsible for the delivery of the annual Rotherham Show which features theatre, music and outdoor arts from world class touring shows alongside a blend of local acts and performers, attracting audiences of more than 80,000 people from across the region. The team leads on annual programme of Town Centre events including:- The Christmas programme including the design and development of the annual lights programme, the Switch On event and the associated Winter programme UPLIFT Urban Sports Festival which takes over the Town Centre creating a pop-up skate park, parkour set, BMX track with dance, music and more for three days at the start of the summer holidays WOW Rotherham a fearlessly fun festival of women, girls, trans and non-binary communities, celebrating the diverse and colourful identities that make up our borough, as part of the global family of WOW Women of the World festivals. Alongside this core programme of annual events the team also hosts a range of special events and cultural programmes and touring events with previous events including UEFA Women’s Euros, Tour of Britain and the Reytons Homecoming Gig at Clifton Park. Rotherham Council is now seeking an Events Officer with experience in delivering large-scale events and festivals in a range of indoor and outdoor settings including developing robust event plans and risk assessments for events and festivals. This person must have excellent organisational skills and a good working knowledge of project management functions as the role relates to events and festivals. We’re looking for someone who can bring Rotherham’s streets, parks and squares to life, creating a home for unique and distinctive cultural festivals and events and creating opportunities to bring the borough’s diverse communities together. This role is part of a small but effective Events Team supporting services across the Council and community event organisers to safely deliver high-quality community and civic events. The role requires the following essential skills:- Excellent organisational skills and a good working knowledge of project management functions as relates to events and festivals Experience of delivering large-scale events and festivals in a range of indoor and outdoor settings including developing robust event plans and risk assessments for events and festivals Experience of providing exceptional customer service and communication to a range of stakeholders Experience of supervising staff, freelancers and volunteers with a range of experience and knowledge Practical experience of undertaking evaluation and monitoring of events and festivals Awareness of digital technology and its potential to engage audiences and provide visibility for events and festivals The role will also include supporting the promotional activity for events including social media posts, content creation, liaising with designers and arranging advertising for events.
