Quality Inspector
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Inspector to join our team. This role is responsible for verifying material certification documents, conducting dimensional inspections, and ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and industry standards, including AS9100 and ISO 9001. The ideal candidate will be proficient in CMM programming and operation, with a strong understanding of FAIR and ISIR documentation requirements. This is a hands-on position that plays a key role in maintaining our commitment to quality and continuous improvement across all stages of production.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Review and verify material certification documents to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and applicable standards (including AS9100 and ISO 9001).
2. Prepare and review ISIR (Initial Sample Inspection Reports) and FAIR (First Article Inspection Reports) in accordance with customer and industry requirements.
3. Accurately document inspection findings, including certificate conformity, observations, and any discrepancies.
4. Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and material standards to validate documentation.
5. Offline program and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to carry out dimensional inspections of components.
6. Use a range of additional inspection tools and equipment, such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
7. Report non-conformances promptly and collaborate with relevant departments to address quality issues.
8. Maintain accurate and traceable inspection records in accordance with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality management system requirements.
9. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends and areas for enhancement in documentation control.
10. Participate in audits, internal reviews, and relevant training to uphold and improve inspection standards.
Day-to-day of the role:
1. Begin each day by reviewing upcoming jobs and prioritising inspections based on production schedules and customer deadlines.
2. Cross-check material certification documents against engineering drawings and specification requirements.
3. Offline program and run CMM inspections, ensuring accurate measurement of critical dimensions.
4. Carry out manual inspections using handheld tools where applicable, verifying tolerances and surface finishes.
5. Prepare and update FAIRs and ISIRs for new product introductions or customer submissions.
6. Record all inspection findings in the quality management system and flag any deviations or non-conformances.
7. Communicate with all departments and quality teams to resolve issues and support root cause investigations.
8. Participate in daily quality stand-up meetings and contribute to continuous improvement discussions.
9. Maintain calibration status of inspection equipment and ensure the inspection area remains clean and organised.
10. Support audit preparation activities and respond to auditor queries with supporting documentation as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Essential:
1. Proven experience in a quality inspection role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
2. Strong understanding of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standards.
3. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and material specifications.
4. Proficient in programming and operating CMM equipment.
5. Experience with FAIR and ISIR preparation.
6. Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and surface testers.
7. Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and documentation skills.
8. Confident communicator, able to liaise effectively across departments.
Desirable:
1. Formal qualifications in mechanical or manufacturing engineering (e.g., HNC/HND, NVQ, or equivalent).
2. Experience supporting internal and external audits.
3. Familiarity with customer-specific standards (e.g., Rolls-Royce SABRe).
4. Lean or Six Sigma awareness and involvement in continuous improvement activities.

Contracted Hours: 8am-5pm Monday - Thursday and 8am -1pm Friday
