SOLICITOR - Private Client
Location: GUILDFORD
Our client is seeking a Solicitor (2-5 year PQE) to work in their Private Client department based at their Guildford office.
Description
* Undertake fee earning work and provide a profitable contribution to the work of the department.
* Meet fee earning and other KPI targets.
* Ensure the successful development of the firm in line with the current published Business Plan.
* Handle will, power of attorney, trust, probate and tax advice work for private clients and build and develop own case load.
* Participate in the marketing of the firm by active participation in networking, seminar provision, etc.
* Maintain and improve client care.
* Work effectively with other departments.
* Develop own specialist areas of work.
Job Responsibilities
* Assist the department in meeting its fee earning targets by providing advice and assistance to clients.
* Conduct matters on behalf of clients.
* Manage support services for which (s)he is responsible, including supervision of own secretary if appropriate.
* Participate in marketing activities on a firm-wide, departmental, or office basis.
* Utilise skills of any department Trainee and assist with the Trainee’s training.
* Financial control regarding cash-flow control through collection of monies on account and billing procedures.
* Participate fully in the activities of the team.
* Assist during the absence of other fee earners.
* Carry out work outside of normal hours when required.
* Travel to client meetings both in and outside the UK when required.
* Promote good file management.
* Formulate and advance internal procedures.
* Undertake other duties as required.
* Ensure compliance with Lexcel and other regulatory procedures.

Qualifications
A good honours degree.
Essential Personal Qualities and Attributes
* Competence in chosen area of law and practice.
* Achieves targets in respect of chargeable hours, fees, recovery rate, lock-up and non-chargeable time as Solicitor and is looking to progress.
* Develops and maintains a client/referrer base.
* Understands and undertakes proper referral of work to relevant departments and development of work for other departments.
* Shows willingness to be involved in activities of the firm outside of work within the department assigned.
* Supervises junior members of staff where appropriate.
* Involved in practice development.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
* Sound training.
* Well-developed interpersonal, social and communication skills, including an appreciation of the vulnerability of some clients at distressing times.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure.
* Computer literate with the ability to develop its use in own functional area.
* Enthusiasm and commitment.
* A sound knowledge of responsibilities as a solicitor, including:
o Rules and principles of professional conduct.

o Relations with third parties.
o Relations with other solicitors.
o Regulatory and compliance procedures.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
* Prior knowledge of Practice Evolve or other office management systems.
* Prior knowledge of Lexcel requirements.
* Specialist area knowledge.
