Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Clinical Oncologist with an interest in breast and colorectal cancers, based at the Sussex Cancer Centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, with sessions throughout the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
The Sussex Cancer Centre Oncology Service is a team of oncologists employed through University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, providing clinical and medical oncology care to the population of Sussex. This includes non-surgical cancer treatments across five hospital locations: Brighton, Haywards Heath, Worthing, Hastings, and Eastbourne, along with acute service support in Chichester.
The new appointee will work alongside colleagues in the Breast and Colorectal site reference groups, which comprise a multiprofessional team including clinical oncologists, medical oncologists, pharmacists, clinical nurse specialists, and cancer support workers.
The appointee will have an On Call Commitment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital on a 1:9 rota (currently 1:17). They will join a team of 30 clinical/medical consultant oncologists delivering a comprehensive oncology service for patients across the Trust. Key duties will include:
1. Regular outpatient clinics
2. Clinical trial leadership and delivery
3. MDT attendance
4. SACT prescribing and oversight
5. Clinical supervision of non-medical staff
6. Clinical governance
7. Service developments
8. Ward reviews
9. On call
It is anticipated that the post holder will take on leadership/development roles within the division and will be supported to do so. They will also take an active role in education for trainees at all grades, contributing to the teaching and supervision of medical students, junior medical staff, and AHP/nurses.
Applicants are encouraged to participate in audits and support junior team members in their audit projects. There are opportunities for clinical cancer research, supported by a divisional lead for research.
