Salary: £30,000- £41,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Freelancers are eligible to apply for an internal role if they are on a Worker Contract and they have worked continuously for 6 months. BBC Education is recruiting an Assistant Producer to help deliver this year’s BBC 500 Words, the UK’s most successful children’s story writing competition, which celebrates creativity and imagination rather than spelling, punctuation or grammar. Since it was first launched by the Radio 2 Breakfast Show in 2011 the competition has received over a million stories.
Now a pan BBC initiative, 500 Words is run by Bitesize for Teachers, hosted by The One Show and supported by programmes across the BBC. The competition is made in collaboration with a wide variety of external partners who help not only deliver the prizes but also increase the reach and impact of the competition, supporting children of all abilities and backgrounds to submit their stories.
The assistant producer role involves assisting the producer in the day to day running of the competition, including the extensive judging process, keeping the website updated with competition information and content to inspire children of all abilities to write their stories, as well as helping promote the competition to schools.
Main Responsibilities
You will be a strong all-rounder able to write, create and edit content for digital platforms for young audiences.
Working closely with the producer, the assistant producer will have the editorial and digital experience to ensure the website has all the competition details and inspires entries from children of all abilities and backgrounds. The assistant producer will support the producer in overseeing the story submissions, answering queries from volunteer judges and submitters as well as being integral to the competition verification process.
The role will also include working with partners to help promote the competition and as well as gathering competition prizes .
Are you the right candidate?
* Strong communication skills - both verbal and written with proven experience of working with a wide variety of stakeholders both internal and external
* Strong digital skills including extensive knowledge of using content management systems to create web pages as well as knowledge of photoshop and premier pro
* You will have demonstrable knowledge of creating social content including skills to edit short films and graphics.
* Audiencefocused in everything you do, with the ability to generate ideas to create content which is appropriate in style and tone, particular awareness of school age audiences and teachers.
* Effective planning and organisational skills and ability to concentrate on several areas at the same time, delivering to tight deadlines
* Editorial judgement and a thorough knowledge of editorial and legal guidelines and proven experience of taking ideas from concept to finished product whilst driving forward creativity.
* self-shooter you will have the skills and experience to produce and edit short films for online and social combined with experience in creating social media strategies.
