Job Summary
This position is full time (37 hours) over 4 days.
The post holder is responsible for the delivery of practice nursing services care to the practice population.
Supported by senior nurses within the practice, they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long-term conditions, health prevention and screening activities.
They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.
Main duties of the job
1. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care;
2. Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that encourage patients to live healthily, and apply principles of self-care;
3. Deliver opportunistic health promotion using opportunities such as new-patient medicals;
4. Assess and care for patients presenting with uncomplicated wounds;
5. Support and advise women requesting information relating to family planning needs;
6. Support and manage health needs of women presenting for cervical cytology consultations;
7. Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children;
8. Advise, support and, where appropriate, administer vaccinations for patients travelling abroad;
9. Perform Spirometry as required;
10. Promote and deliver evidence-based care for patients presenting with aural condition.
11. Make referrals to appropriate outside services for full patient care.
About Us
Derby Road Health Centre is a well established GP surgery in Lenton, Nottingham. We have a diverse patient base, with a list size of just under 13,000.
The surgery currently employs 4 nurses (approx. 3 FTE) with support from a HCA and Phlebotomist.
