Job Description
A position is available with the Antibody Development Platform team to support antibody discovery within internal New Product Development and external Custom Solutions. Successful candidates will use their scientific and technical skills to help directly deliver brand new antibodies to help researchers and scientists worldwide to discover more, faster!
About the Antibody Development Platform (ADP) at Abcam
The Cambridge ADP team is part of a global group discovering antibodies to a wide variety of targets that have commercial priority for use within Abcam’s catalogue of antibodies, while also offering its antibody discovery expertise to external customers (including leaders from biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry). We provide high quality, high-performance antibodies utilising a number of approaches, including RabMAb® technology (our patented antibody technology) and Single B-cell cloning for the development of high-quality monoclonal antibodies for our customers.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Support aspects of the antibody generation process for monoclonal antibody projects using techniques involving: Molecular Biology, ELISA, Mammalian Cell Culture and FACS.
2. Use liquid handling automation to support high throughput sampling and assays.
3. Contribute to and implement process improvements and optimisation with an operational excellence mindset.
4. Work closely with key project stakeholders to relay project progress and delivery dates for key reagents, and contribute to the preparation of customer reports and recommendations.
5. Support Data Management by analysing data and recording within electronic laboratory notebooks in a timely manner;
6. Ensure compliance with ISO9001 operational guidelines, and Health and Safety Procedures
7. Contribute to housekeeping tasks ensuring the lab is tidy and continually stocked with key reagents and lab consumables
Qualifications
You will be educated to at least degree level in a life sciences-related subject. Our ideal candidate will have some experience working in a scientific industry/lab, have flexibility in the way that they work, being able to work autonomously as well as part of a team while providing high quality standards throughout their work. Prior experience in either molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry or, standard binding assays such as ELISA or HTRF is desirable. Any prior experience in antibody generation for biotech or pharma industries is desirable although not essential. All relevant training will be provided.
Our ideal candidate will be a team player, highly self-motivated, hardworking, have excellent organisational capabilities and deliver results consistently to a high-standard in a fast-paced environment. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about science and wants to be involved not only in delivering challenging projects, but also understanding the how and the why. Excellent communication skills are a must, working accurately to follow both written and verbal instructions, while maintaining detailed records.
