Responsible to: Pharmacy Manager
Job Purpose: To provide an accurate, timely, and qualitative dispensing
service to the registered patients at Pharmacy Care Matters.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. DISPENSING
1.1. To dispense medication as stated on prescriptions, maintaining accurate dispensing records and ensuring that the medication is labelled with the correct drug name, strength, quantity, directions for use, patient’s name and includes any additional required information.
1.2. To adhere to practice policies and procedures (Standard Operating Procedures) for dispensing medicines, in particular those relating to expensive and controlled drugs.
1.3. Provide a second-check on all medication issued.
1.4. Maintain minimum stock levels of medicines, checking expiry dates and storage conditions.
1.5. Place accurate and timely orders with suppliers and accept deliveries of medication, adding them to the computerised stock control records.
1.6. Maintain dispensary equipment, ensuring it is clean, accurate and in a good state of repair.
1.7 Dispensing of patient medicines into Monitored Dosage Systems.
2. ADMINISTRATION
2.1 Using the clinical computer system (PMR) to ensure all relevant information is recorded within individual patient records. Resolve computer problems when these arise by consultation with colleagues or PMR provider.
2.2 Endorse prescriptions accurately by checking prices with suppliers as necessary.
2.3 Ensure the safe disposal of returned and out-of-date medications.
3. HEALTH AND SAFETY
3.1. Adhere to all aspects of the Health and Safety at Work Act and Regulations and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations, ensuring good hygiene, cleanliness and a safe environment in the dispensary.
3.2. Maintain the integrity and security of the dispensary by admitting only authorised personnel and ensuring that all medicines are stored as appropriate.
4. COMMUNICATION
4.1. Respond to queries from patients, pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes etc, whether by face-to-face contact, telephone, email, fax etc.
4.2. Liaise with members of the primary care team regarding medication for individual patients.
4.3. Communicate effectively and regularly with other members of the dispensing team to ensure the accurate exchange of information relating to patients and their medication.
4.4. Attend regular team meetings with dispensary colleagues and other practice staff.
5. GENERAL
5.1. At all times maintain absolute confidentiality.
5.2. Attend training courses as suggested by the Dispensary Manager and agreed as part
of a Personal Development Plan.
5.3. Be pro-active in developing new initiatives in the dispensary.
5.4. Be prepared to cover the work of colleagues when they are absent through annual leave or illness.

Pay: £9.50-£13.00 per hour
