You really will be on the front line, being the face of Thames Water for our customers.
Every year, we conduct over 500,000 tests on water samples collected from treatment works, reservoirs, and randomly selected customer properties. This ensures our drinking water meets the highest quality standards – and you’ll play a key role in that!
What you’ll be doing as a Customer Sampling Technician
As a Customer Sampling Technician, you’ll be responsible for collecting and testing water samples to ensure the highest quality standards are met. You’ll oversee the management and maintenance of your sampling records and equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards. You may also investigate supply issues and customer complaints.
Key responsibilities include:
- Taking part in an out-of-hours roster, including weekends, on a rotating schedule.
- Extensive travel between customer properties and sites across a wide geographical area.
- Conducting water sampling, managing equipment, and maintaining accurate records.
- Communicating directly with customers, addressing concerns and providing updates.
Base Location: South East London SE2 9AQ.
Working Pattern: from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday.
Please note, in this role, 1 week in 7 will have working weekends.
What you should bring to the role
We’re looking for someone who can confidently manage a busy schedule and communicate effectively with customers. Key skills and attributes include:
- Demonstrable experience in driving and customer service, as the role involves cold calling customers and long periods spent driving.
- A clean, manual driving license is essential.
- The ability to plan journeys efficiently and good driving knowledge.
- Organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in sample collection and record-keeping.
- Willingness to learn about the water industry and related processes.
- Good computer literacy and proficiency with digital tools.
