This specialist school based in West Drayton, Hillingdon is looking for a special needs Therapeutic Education Practitioner with experience of working with challenging children and young people. This is a specialist SEMH school that caters for young people who have been excluded or are at risk of being excluded from a mainstream school.
Therapeutic Education Practitioners must have experience working with mental health problems and complex SEN needs. This school believes that all young people should be provided with appropriate education in a safe, stable, and containing learning environment.
Special needs Therapeutic Education Practitioners will be working with secondary-aged pupils who have SEMD and SEBD troubled behaviour. Some students are academic, and they range from KS2 to KS4.
Responsibilities include:
1. Working with highly personalised individual education plans to support students.
2. Excellent behaviour management skills.
3. Building positive relationships with young people and staff.
4. Teaching or covering a range of lessons when needed.
5. Good knowledge/experience working with children with SEMH within a special needs environment.
6. Experience working with secondary-aged pupils.
7. Collaborating with classroom teachers to define appropriate activities related to the curriculum.
8. Assessing children with long or short-term learning difficulties and identifying individual pupils' special needs.
9. Liaising with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and educational psychologists.
This is a full-time, long-term position and will lead to permanent if successful.
