Content Designer

We’re working with people across government to make services and information simpler, clearer, and faster for everyone. To do that, we need enthusiastic and talented content designers who can work within a multidisciplinary team across digital and non-digital channels, to produce consistent content to style and supportive of design patterns.
Users first
We create digital services that put the user first. A content designer helps the user to understand what they need to do and explains how they can do it as quickly as possible. They do this by providing the user with the information they need at the right time.
Main duties of the role
The types of projects you will work on as a content designer are varied but will usually involve some kind of content transition or transformation, including designing or redesigning government services.
In this role you can expect to:
* Develop and manage relationships with the Government Digital Service (GDS) to ensure content is to style and meets service standards.
* Work directly with product managers and stakeholders, running meetings and workshops to understand the subject matter and understand the project requirements.
* Actively develop and apply content strategies to achieve project goals.
* Be an advocate for users and content and help train and develop colleagues in this way of thinking.
* Scope, commission, write, edit, and publish content across digital channels.
* Design and improve user journeys.
* Manage relationships with subject matter experts to make sure content is accurate, meeting the needs of users, timely, high-quality, and to government and the department’s style.
* Make sure appropriate policy and legal checks within departments and other parts of government and monitor the performance of content and services and work with your team to understand user behaviors and feedback.
* Identify ways to improve content and to iteratively improve services.
* Be at ease in an agile environment with rapidly changing deadlines, workloads, and goal.
To be successful in this role, you are someone who:
* Is an experienced Content Designer with experience in working with Government Digital Services.
* Can work at pace in an agile environment within a multidisciplinary team.
* Has exemplary spelling and grammar and be able to write using a style guide and plain English.
* Uses data and user research to inform content decisions.
* Is able to handle constructive feedback about your work but also provides constructive feedback on other’s people work.
