Role: Electrical / Mechanical Build Technician

Duration: 12 months
Rate: £40 - £45/hour (Umbrella)

Job description:
The ideal candidate would be a technician, with a focus on precision quality & build procedures, which require attention to detail. Most build work will be small and quite detailed.
A problem-solving mindset and great communication skills with the engineers and ops staff around them would enable the technician to be a valued team member for the duration of the contract.
Experience working with a variety of metrology techniques would stand the candidate in good stead to learn new procedures, the majority of which are developed in house.
Experience reading engineering documentation and drawings is a necessity, and feeding back improvements to documentation is desired.
Key responsibilities:
1. Precision mechanical/electrical builds to technical drawing.
2. Quality Assurance - identify defects in optics assemblies.
3. Kitting parts for build against drawing.
4. Build/improvement of test rigs, working closely with design engineers to leverage rapid prototyping (3D Printing, laser cutting, modular lab-build kits).
5. Running rudimentary software scripts for test rigs.
6. QA incoming mechanical parts against drawing.
7. Documenting build/QA procedures.
8. Receiving goods-in & organizing shipments for goods out.
9. Supporting good workshop culture.
Skills / experience
Essential
1. HNC or higher, or equivalent in technical discipline.
2. Ability to understand engineering documentation & drawings.
3. Experience assembling in accordance with technical drawings.
4. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
5. Knowledge and experience of mechanical part inspection.
6. Experience working on procedures which are governed by ISO 9000 standards (batch control / traceability).
7. Flexible, problem-solving mindset.
8. Familiarity or interest in programming basics.
Desirable
1. Experience handling optical assemblies.
2. Experience using machine tools (pillar drill, lathe).
3. Experience making coding in Python.
4. Member of a professional body (MEIT, IMechE).
