An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual passionate about woodland management to join a family owned and managed Estate in East Sussex/Surrey.
The family vision is to achieve an Estate that is highly sustainable, supports a rich array of biodiversity whilst also being maintained to a high standard. The Estate comprises over 250 acres of woodland that requires management in order to enhance and maintain its aesthetic and timber value.
The ideal candidate will be someone with a passion for woodland management and Estate maintenance. They will be able to take instruction and work independently and be willing to work outside in all weather conditions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day woodland operations including use of 5-ton excavator to repair forestry tracks, install new culverts, maintain ditches and enhance the quality of woodland ponds. The role will also include thinning areas of the woodland in line with the Estate’s woodland management plan, coppicing, tree planting, crown lifting trees near to field boundaries, processing timber through a log processor as well as managing the sale and delivery of firewood. The ideal candidate would also have experience using tractors, or a willingness to learn, to assist with moving stone to areas of track.
Working hours will comprise 40 hours per week, working time can be flexible but suggested hours are Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm. No scheduled weekend working is required but occasional work outside of the fixed hours may be necessary.
