Müller Yogurt & Desserts (MYD) is the UK’s leading yogurt manufacturer responsible for major brands like Müllerlight, Müller Corner and Müller Rice. It produces chilled desserts under licence from Mondelez International and supplies the UK private label yogurt market from a dedicated, state of the art yogurt facility.
Major investment and commitment from Muller to the long-term future of their Shropshire operations, has seen circa £80m invested at Market Drayton in upgrades to site infrastructure, automation and high-speed filling machines. Additionally, the site has secured further investment in world class warehousing and storage solutions, new product developments as well as significant investment in their yogurt and fruit processing plants.
To support the efficient running of equipment MYD has adopted a line-centric approach to manufacturing with a plan to increase efficiency and provide guaranteed levels of customer service.
We are looking for an Engineering Manager wishing to join our Operations Team and support the introduction of a line-centric manufacturing system (The Muller Production System).
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate proven leadership skills founded on practical knowledge and skills. The Site Engineering Manager will be responsible for ensuring safe and compliant operation of site services equipment whilst providing technical support to our Line/Unit Leaders as they develop both preventative and autonomous maintenance procedures.
In this role the key responsibilities will include:
Support the introduction of the Muller Production System (holistic approach to maintenance and improvement methodologies).
Overseeing all engineering maintenance activities carried out by both Operational Cells and engineering services maintenance teams to ensure compliance with all relevant quality and manufacturers standards.
Being a key member of a dynamic operations management team with responsibility for delivering reliable services and utilities to the manufacturing site
Being part of the operations team and provide technical support both in-terms of standards and maintenance techniques to the line-centric maintenance teams.
Oversight of the site’s maintenance budget to ensure the efficient use of funds by both services and line teams through provision of labour, repairs & maintenance, contracts and projects
Ensuring all maintenance activities are planned in a timescale that ensures both personnel safety and food safety requirements are achieved and support the prevention of unplanned catastrophic failures.
Support of 24/7 operation and team in emergency out of hours situations
Management of engineering stores activities and provision of required engineering spares/stocks to support efficient operation of plant assets.
Key skills & experience
A strong desire to work in a developing team environment and support the introduction of line-centric manufacturing (Muller Production System).
Experience working in a multi-skilled team (engineering and operations) and able to demonstrate improvements as a result.
Demonstrable knowledge of complex fast moving clean environments (24/7 short life products)
Proven track record of strong technical competency within high technology, fast moving and complex environment
Experience in management of engineering maintenance teams and delivery of sound maintenance practices.
Experience in following proven Improvement Methodologies and ability to adapt approach to suit various business strategies.
Must possess understanding of holistic operational and maintenance methodologies (Continuous Improvement, Effective Maintenance, TPM etc.)
Must show ambition and enthusiasm toward leading cultural change in an operational environment, including support of organisational design and working practices
Capability to work in a team to develop a high performance and service-oriented culture within the organisation
