Cranswick Convenience Foods - Milton Keynes
Job Purpose
To provide effective electrical and mechanical services to Cranswick Milton Keynes factory equipment. This includes installation, maintenance, and repair work across various engineering disciplines such as mechanical, civil, electrical, plumbing, ventilation, and refrigeration.
Levels:
1. Level 1: Familiar. Performs activities in a range of contexts with supervision required in more complex circumstances. Suitable for engineers at the start of their career or recently joined the business.
2. Level 2: Skilled. Performs activities in some complex or non-routine contexts with significant responsibility and autonomy. Can oversee the work of others.
3. Level 3: Expert. Performs activities in a wide range of complex and non-routine contexts with substantial personal autonomy. Can develop others within the activity.
Responsibilities
* Ensure all activities comply with company and legislative health and safety guidelines, suggesting improvements to the Engineering Shift Manager.
* Record all work on CMMS (Pirana) in line with department and statutory requirements, ensuring a hygiene hand-back is always completed.
* Maintain high standards across workshops, toolboxes, and associated engineering areas.
* Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns in multiple areas on site, identifying root causes and suggesting improvements to prevent recurrence.
* Share best practices with the department through toolbox talks.
* Manage workload and work orders proactively, ensuring effective handovers and further works as needed.
* Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to the Engineering Shift Manager and collaborate with the operations department to minimize disruption.
* Ensure engineering maintenance is carried out according to the schedule, taking corrective action as needed, and conducting quality control checks to meet technical specifications or site requirements.
* Monitor and adjust process equipment to optimize performance according to production requirements and quality assurance standards.
* Carry out minor modifications to process equipment and assist in installing new equipment as appropriate.
* Identify spare parts, equipment, and materials required to minimize downtime.
* Demonstrate basic problem-solving techniques to identify root causes of issues.
* Raise stock and non-stock requests.
* Escalate engineering issues to the Shift Manager/Manager/Engineering Department in a timely manner.
* Supervise/manage contractors when required.
* Mentor apprentices when required.
Engineer Requirements
* Compliant with Engineering Training and Competency Matrix for their respective level.
* Electrical fault finding and mechanical fitting experience.
* Pneumatic and hydraulic experience.
Additional Level 1 Requirements:
* BTEC & NVQ Level 3 Apprenticeship (or equivalent) Engineering qualification.
Additional Level 2 Requirements:
* Level 1 requirements - see above.
* Higher Level Apprenticeship desirable.
* Several years of engineering experience, ideally in a food manufacturing environment.
* Competent electrical fault finder.
* Ability to explain their work and production process to others.
Additional Level 3 Requirements:
* Level 1 & 2 requirements - see above.
* 18th edition qualified.
* Automation and controls experience.
* Ability to mentor and develop others within their department.
Full training will be provided to allow employees to progress their career through the levels.

Health, Safety & Environment

* Involvement in the Risk Assessment process to include the reduction of risk.
* Reporting any damaged or faulty equipment to the management team.
* Reporting any unsafe activities.
* Reporting accidents and near misses by following the correct procedure.
* Wearing the correct Personal Protective Equipment and clothing for the work being carried out always.
* Following the correct procedures - inclusive of the Lock off and tag off, working at height, hot works permit, and Safe working procedures.
* Using all equipment in a safe manner.
Food Safety
You will be working in a food manufacturing area and are required by law to produce a safe and legal product. Cranswick has also entered into contracts with its customers, and as such, you are required to ensure the agreed quality expectations of the customer are matched or exceeded. To meet these requirements, you must follow all company policies and procedures to the letter and follow any reasonable instructions given.
Training
* Undertake all relevant operational, technical, health & safety, environmental, and development training required by company policy and legal requirements.
* Assist the supervision and management with the safe introduction and development of new colleagues to your area.
* Be open and receptive to all training required to fulfill your role within the company. The company's commitment to training and development is included in the colleague handbook.
