Want to join us? As a Water Treatment Operative, covering the Dumfries and Galloway (West) Water Treatment team who look after the Water Treatment Works from Kirkcudbright to Stranraer. You’ll be on the front lines of making sure Scotland’s water is totally, dependably pure.
This position will include weekend working. There is also a requirement to participate in an out of hours standby rota.
What you’ll do
1. Join an experienced team that helps to monitor and maintain the quality of water at our treatment works, pumping stations, and reservoirs.
2. Follow TOMS procedures to operate the plant – calibrate monitors, check membrane pressures, tank levels, and record water quality metrics including turbidity, pH, and chlorine levels.
3. Support the water networks team as needed.
4. Conduct regular inspections of plants and reservoirs.
5. Handle risk assessments and adhere to health and safety protocols.
6. Participate in the standby rota for out-of-hours cover.
What you’ll bring
1. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
2. Comfort with new computer systems.
3. Attention to detail to prevent inaccurate recordings or health and safety failures.
4. Ability to spot trends and solve problems independently and collaboratively.
5. A valid driving licence.
6. Willingness to perform manual handling and outside duties in all weather conditions.
Knowledge of water treatment processes and distribution systems is a plus, as is mechanical maintenance experience, though these are not essential.

This role is a Grade 4 position with a starting salary of £27,590, with potential progression up to £32,410 (plus standby allowance). Job offers are conditional upon completion of pre-employment screening.
