Purpose of Role: Weir Marine Engineering is currently looking for a Systems Safety Engineer for the naval Combat and Control Systems (CCS) section. This permanent position based in Dartmouth (NS) consists of providing Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) support in the field of Systems Safety Engineering (SSE) for the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) project. The candidate may also provide support to other tasks as required by project demands including Test & Evaluation (T&E) and Land Based Test Capability (LBTC) activities.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Verification & Validation : Providing System Safety Engineering (SSE) advice across stakeholders, conducting reviews of Contractor provided safety plans, process and procedures, hazard analysis activities, logs and reports.
2. Process development : Developing SSE standards, processes and procedures including related test requirements, plans and procedures.
3. Technical support: Providing support to lifecycle phase reviews, supporting system safety engineering working Groups and implementing standards and processes such as those defined in US MIL-STD-882E (Military Standard) and Def-Stan 00-056 (UK MoD Defence Standard).
4. Teamwork: Collaborate with team members with the ability to communicate technical concepts to individuals at all levels, including customers and suppliers, verbally and in writing.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
6. Mandatory: obtention a Government of Canada security clearance, which requires Canadian citizenship and continuous residence in Canada over the last 10 years as a minimum.
7. Mandatory: Bachelor degree of Industrial, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
8. Mandatory: Experience of developing and working with Safety Management Systems and Hazard Tracking Systems; Implementing SSE processes as defined in standards mentioned above on complex projects.
9. Desirable: Knowledge or experience with SSE tools and techniques such as Bow-Tie Diagram, Event Tree Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, FMEA/FMECA, Functional Safety Analysis, Hazard Analysis, SWIFT Analysis, HAZOP, Goal Structuring Notation, Claim Trees and Consequence Analysis.
10. Desirable: Experience working with naval systems.
