St Marys Surgery has a new and exciting opportunity for a GP Assistant (30 hours) to join our busy and friendly Surgery working with our administrative and healthcare teams to meet the needs of our patients.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with strong IT skills; be forward-thinking and have a can-do attitude. An experienced administrator or someone already working in healthcare or an acute NHS role would be desirable but not essential as full training will be given, however, a willingness to learn and develop is required.
Main duties of the job
The GP Assistant will assist the practice in the service and delivery of patient care by performing administrative and some clinical tasks on behalf of the GP to enable them to make the best use of their consultation time.

St Marys Surgery is based in Windermere and Staveley in the Lake District National Park. We are a training practice with 7 dedicated GPs supported by a team of highly professional clinical and non-clinical staff to provide high-quality care to our 6700 patients.

Job responsibilities
Administration
* Extracting relevant information from letters which require coding
* Ensuring patients are signposted to other organisations if appropriate
* Actioning patient correspondence received via email, Accurx, and website
* Ensuring new patient registrations are dealt with in a timely manner according to practice guidelines
* Dealing with administrative tasks daily
* Processing referrals via the Electronic Referral System (ERS) and the Standard Outbound System
* Transcribing referral information
* Summarising new patient records in line with practice guidelines
* Undertaking project work within the team
* Responsible for audit work within the medicine management system
Clinical
* Assessing home blood pressure readings
* Ensuring urines are dipped and recorded daily
* Undertaking the Long-Term Condition recall
* Liaising with outside agencies
* Supporting our immunisation programme
* Learning to take blood pressures and holding small BP clinics
* Performing an ECG to assist the GP
* Becoming a chaperone to assist clinicians in surgery
* Undertaking phlebotomy in due course
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, especially in Maths and English
* Experience working at a high level of administration
