We are looking for a passionate individual to join our team. This post is an exciting opportunity to become a Lead BMS Technical in advanced dissection of Urology specimens. It requires on-the-job practical training alongside completion of a dissection portfolio and gaining the Diploma in Expert Practice in Dissection.
Main Duties of the Job
The majority of the role will involve practical dissection of Histology routine and specialist Histology specimens.
Key responsibilities include:
* Involvement in developing and completing documents linked with dissection such as SOPs, RAs, H+S, and competency.
* Training of staff in routine dissection and acting as mentors for STPs and BMSs.
* Attendance at relevant meetings.
* Covering other Lead BMS roles and deputising for the Head BMS as needed.
The appointment will be to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals; however, candidates should be aware that Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is part of a pathology collaboration project.

Job Responsibilities
Duties to include but not be limited to:
* Maintain effective communication strategies with colleagues across the Trust and external agencies to ensure service delivery.
* Discuss and give expert technical advice and opinions on Cellular Pathology (Dissection) issues.
* Deal with professional and public inquiries in an efficient, tactful, and diplomatic manner.
* Organise dissection meetings and provide regular communication updates to all Cellular Pathology Laboratory staff, disseminating actions identified from the meetings.
* Undertake appraisals of BMS staff and develop and record Personal Development Plans.
* Identify training needs of Cellular Pathology Laboratory BMS staff and agree with Head BMS.
* Act as the department lead for training of STPs and advanced BMS technical skills for the Cellular Pathology Laboratory.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Cellular Pathology Biomedical Science.
* Evidence of higher specialist training in Cellular Pathology gained through short courses or distance learning or equivalent experience.
* Recognised management qualification at certificate or diploma level or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of commitment to CPD.
* State registered BMS with HCPC.
* Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection.
Knowledge
* 3 years dissection experience.
* Up-to-date knowledge and extensive experience of Cellular Pathology.
* Experience of highly specialised, complex analytical techniques in Cellular Pathology.
* Substantial experience of supervising/managing a team.
* Evidence to support a programme of personal and professional development.
* Experience of information technology.
* Evidence of procurement of specialised Cellular Pathology equipment.
* Training of staff in Cellular Pathology.
* Experience/involvement in committees or external organisations.
* Awareness of financial management and control.
