The post
The faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in two research projects within the Exeter Collaboration for Academic Primary Care (APEx). The first project is aiming to quantify the risks of deprescribing in people with limited life expectancy, given that many long-term medications take many years to realise a tangible benefit. This will be done by examining data from primary and secondary care medical records from a large cohort of older patients and applying estimates of benefits and harms of various medications extracted from systematic reviews. The second project (TOGETHER 2) is a collaboration with the University of Oxford and is Evaluating video and hybrid group consultations in general practice. The role of Exeter researchers in the project is to examine patient experience data from surveys as well as primary and secondary care utilisation which has been extracted from medical records. This National Institute of Health and Social Care Research funded post is available immediately and will continue until the end of the projects on 31 December 2025. The successful applicant will be responsible for data management and analysis of survey data and electronic health record data from general practices linked to data from hospitals and reporting the results from these analyses.
The post will include management and analysis of data, including statistical analysis, writing up of work for reports and scientific publications, presenting work at conferences and interacting with the lead investigator and wider project team.
About you
The successful applicant will require the key skills needed to manage and analyse a large data set of routine healthcare data. Further, they will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in statistics or data analysis and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.
