The School of Computer Science and Technology (CST) is growing, and we are searching for an ambitious Computer Science Technician to join our dynamic team. As a key player in our Computing department, you will work closely with our academic team to impart essential practical skills to our students, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed in their future careers.

We are dedicated to keeping our students abreast of the latest industry advancements, ensuring they are well-prepared to navigate the ever-evolving computing landscape with confidence. As a Computer Science Technician in our School, you will be instrumental in providing our students with invaluable hands-on learning opportunities.
In this role, you will primarily be stationed in our state-of-the-art Computing, Networking, and Cyber Labs, where you will play a pivotal role in guiding students and faculty members on the safe and effective utilization of our facilities. Your responsibilities will also include maintaining equipment to the highest standards to facilitate a smooth learning experience and cutting-edge research.
The ideal candidate will actively engage with students in practical lab sessions, offering support as they undertake their project work. Moreover, you will collaborate closely with the School's Technical Services Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our laboratories spanning Computing and Electronic, Automotive, and Mechanical Engineering.
Flexibility is key in this role, as you will be expected to accommodate students' lab access hours, which may involve weekend shifts and unconventional hours as dictated by the demands of the role.
We are seeking applicants with an undergraduate degree in Computing, IT, Networking, or Cyber or equivalent professional experience. Possession of relevant professional certifications and qualifications will be viewed favourably.
The post-holder will require knowledge of several of the below areas:
1. Wired and wireless networking hardware and software.
2. Windows and Linux
3. Network protocols and routing.
4. Desktop computer management.
5. Modern programming languages.
6. Desktop and server operating systems.
7. Directory services (for example Active Directory, virtualization technologies (for example VMWare).
8. Firewall/security/load balancing appliances.
