The Maternal Medicine Specialist Midwife will work closely and collaboratively with the Maternal Medicine Obstetric leads, Midwifery Teams, Screening team, Senior Midwifery Team, tertiary units, maternal medicine network (MMN) and specialist medical/anaesthetic, safeguarding professionals to create a robust, structured approach to the maternal medicine pathway across EKHUFT. They will be an expert practitioner from whom all clinical staff can seek advice and support on maternity medicine concerns.
They will develop and lead in the delivery of professional midwifery care to clients with complex medical care needs during conception, pregnancy and post-birth ensuring the highest possible standards are achieved during all stages of enhanced care provision. To act as a clinical role model and demonstrate excellent leadership skills, practising autonomously within parameters of guidelines/policies and sphere of professional practice in order that effective and compassionate midwifery care is delivered to this group of women/birthing people. Also taking a lead role in VTE assessment and compliance.
Responsibilities:
* Develop good working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team and other health care professionals.
* Lead and develop services and clinical pathways working with Consultants and other MDT members to ensure continuity and consistency of care.
* Liaise with local and regional maternal medicine consultants and other specialist services.
* The Maternal Medicine (MM) Midwife will act as an advocate for the service user and as a support and role model to less experienced doctors, Midwives, nurses and therapists (MDT) to ensure appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated.
* To provide information and advice to parents related to health education to improve health outcomes.
* Provide education to women/birthing people, relatives and significant others e.g. writing and editing patient information literature.
* The Midwife will be a major contributor to the maternal medicine service across EKHUFT acting as a key advocate for the patient and provide in hours support to medical professionals delivering care to women/birthing people.
