Research Laboratory Technician (Fixed Term)
Fixed-Term 12 months Contract
Applications are invited for the post of Research Laboratory Technician (Grade 2) in the South West Thames Institute for Renal Research attached to the Renal Unit, St Helier Hospital.
You will be working on the studies for new biomarkers to improve the detection of kidney disease. Additionally, you will be involved in the general running of the Institute and supporting other colleagues.
You will be involved in the collection and storage of samples. You will also be involved in the testing of samples using enzyme activity assays and ELISAs. Although laboratory experience is required you will be trained in specific activities and be supervised by other members of the team, where appropriate.
This post will suit an enthusiastic individual who is numerate, literate, well organised and keen to learn. Experience and competency in general laboratory skills is essential.

Main duties of the job
1. Hands-on experimental laboratory work including preparing buffers, autoclaving equipment etc.
2. Performing ELISA and 96 well plate absorbance assays
3. Developing and carrying out protocols for isolating cells from patients’ urine
4. Inventory checks and support purchase processes.
5. Support/Contribute to technical reports.
6. Support equipment maintenance.
7. Contribute to waste management.
8. Support database management (support data entry and maintenance).
