The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical installation, pumps, pipework & plantroom maintenance. The role requires a hands-on approach to problem solving with a keen eye for detail and collaboration with colleagues in wider technical disciplines. JOB DESCRIPTION Job Family Definition Roles within the Technical Services family are concerned with the strategic and operational management of Eden sites from the design and implementation of capital projects, through to the maintenance of building systems and the provision of estate facilities which enhance visitor enjoyment. Role Purpose Responsible for site planned maintenance and servicing of all mechanical & fluid systems and infrastructure across Eden and its associated sites, and to actively contribute to the education and enjoyment of visitors. Key Accountabilities Installs, maintains, repairs and safely operates site mechanical fluid systems and all associated equipment. Installs industrial pipework in various sizes, valves & fittings, including all domestic plumbing systems. Maintaining Plantroom Pumps, Site Heating systems, Water Services, Air Handling Units (AHU’s), taps, sinks and the operation of our Building Management Systems (BMS). Have good general mechanical & electrical skills (3 phase, control panels, motors etc.), including diagnostic skills to fault find & maintain or replace various site items as required and working alongside outside subcontractors when needed. Have good IT skills (PC & Phone) & can produce Risk Assessments and job Method Statements, and works within Eden’s Permit systems when conducting maintenance, installation or repairs. Assist other teams within Eden, where mechanical technician skills and expertise are required to support, events, displays, exhibitions and research projects in an effort to increase visitor numbers, improve visitor enjoyment and income generation. Assists with the day-to-day supervision and education of new staff, trainees and volunteers ensuring that all activities are carried out with adequate instruction while satisfying the relevant Health & Safety regulations. Actively engages and interacts with visitors answering questions if asked, providing guidance and imparting knowledge in order to promote the Eden ethos of cultivation, conservation and education. Demands of the Role Education & qualifications Qualified to at least NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an industry recognized plumbing or mechanical engineering qualification, and will be required to undergo H&S and Manual handling training, and hold a current full driving license. Numeracy and literacy must be at a sufficient level to enable the job holder to use basic IT programs and maintain accurate records. Knowledge & skills Fully conversant with standard mechanical maintenance procedures, fault finding, interpret schematics & technical drawings, use of test equipment, problem solving, supported by a broad knowledge of mechanical and fluid systems maintenance. (Pipe soldering & compression fittings, plumbing, industrial pumps & pipework, system valves etc). Decision- making Most decisions are routine in nature, drawing upon the jobholder’s existing knowledge, skills and empowered to use them. Unusually complex or serious situations which fall outside of existing procedures are always referred to a Line Manager to address. Resourcefulness Collaborates with colleagues and Line Managers to devise innovative and creative ways to improve mechanical and associated systems, enhance the effectiveness of machinery operations and engineering practices. People & asset management Assists less experience staff and trainees providing on-the-job training and coaching as required. A shared responsibility for the care and maintenance of maintenance equipment and machinery and for ensuring the safe and secure storage of hazardous substances. Communication & visitor experience The job holder may occasionally be required to engage, communicate and interact with colleagues and visitors, imparting knowledge, exchanging information and providing hygiene or waste management guidance. Operational environment The role regularly requires physical effort such as bending, lifting and climbing within a variety of exposed climatic environments.
