Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a series of natural biological processes whereby organic waste material – known as feedstock – is broken down by micro-organisms and converted into energy, known as biogas. The biogas is used in a combined heat and power plant to generate renewable energy from the organic fraction of municipal solid waste. The role will be a hands-on supervisor role ensuring the safe and efficient running of the AD plant, the role will ensure that the plant runs efficiently and effecting, ensuring that all Health and Safety, Environmental, Training and compliance requirements are achieved and in date.
Responsibilities
* Will act as site COTC holder for the AD
* Day to day management of the AD operations staff
* Line management responsibilities of the AD
* Filling operational staffing gaps to ensure continuous operation of the AD plant
* Manage operational mandatory and competency based training for the AD plant
* Ensure operations of the AD plant are safe and efficient
* Ensure the daily information recording is accurate as per business requirements and relayed during daily production meeting
* Collate and present during operations review meeting KPI’s, plant performance, issues and other considerations to the Principal Operations Manager
* Monitor aspects of operations to ensure plant optimisation and smooth operation of the AD plant
* Monitor aspects of operations to ensure power generation optimisation of the AD engines
* Manage all aspects of AD sampling including management of 3rd party involvement
* Manage and audit AD Policies, procedures, daily/weekly checks
* Manage AD operational SOP’s and EOP’s
* Manage 3rd party contracts in relation to the AD plant
* Proactively arrange for process related works to maximise production between planned outages
* Will Project Manage and control improvements to the process / safety and operation of the AD plant ensuring timelines and Budgets are met.
* Operational planning of outages for AD plant
* Participate in Management of Change, providing information relating to process safety, cost benefit and operational feasibility
* Ensure effective logging and reporting of maintenance related issues using CMMS, highlighting priority jobs during daily production meeting
* Attend mandatory meetings as required by Principal Operations Manager
Size and Scope
• The planning horizons/timescales are mainly focused on resolving daily problems.
• The AD Supervisor needs to be efficient and have strong operational and technical knowledge of the AD. Operations Team rely on the role for technical process support and leadership for the testing and development of new projects.
• The autonomy of this role – small projects - a high level of autonomy but with line management support when required.
• The key internal and external interface in the role – the Operations Team rely on the role for technical process support and leadership for the testing and development of new projects. External interfaces include sub-contractors and equipment suppliers.
Person Requirements
Qualifications
* WAMITAB – Level 4 ( Module 5, anaerobic digestion)
* IOSH Managing Safely Certificate or equivalent formal safety qualification
Skills & Experience
* Experience in Anerobic Digestion process
* Understands relevant industry, health & safety legislation.
* Competent in data collection, analysis and presentation
* Understands how to manage projects.
* Previous experience working within an AD environment.
* Working to defined KPI deliverables.
* Managerial Experience
* Operational experience in Environmental Health and Safety, aspects of a Process Operation
Technical competences
* Understands and is capable of demonstrating the importance of Health and Safety systems in the work place
* Understands and is capable of demonstrating the importance of environmental compliance in the work place
* Demonstrable understanding of the key variables and measurements required to effectively and safely operate a Mechanical, Biological treatment facility in its entirety.
* Demonstrable understanding of the importance of a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) in attaining high availability and plant throughputs.
* A good understanding of all HSE aspects and Safe Systems of Work
* Can influence, lead and persuade others
* Analytical and has techniques for identifying and solving problems
* Highly numerate and literate, both in verbal and written forms
* Confident and credible presenter
* IT literate – comfortable using business software and systems
* Effective time manager and self organiser
