Birmingham City Football Club (BCFC) is seeking an experienced and motivated Women’s Lead Performance Psychologist to join our Women’s Football department. In this exciting role, you will play a pivotal part in helping shape and support a high-performance training environment, providing psychological services to both players and coaching staff. You will work alongside the Head of Performance Services, Women’s Technical Director, the Head Coach, and the wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to drive both winning performances and the mental well-being of players.
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with the SSSM team to create a world-class, high-performance training environment.
* Deliver individual and team psychological support, helping players and coaches with performance-related challenges.
* Work closely with key staff to implement projects aimed at improving mental health, well-being, and overall team performance.
* Help develop and promote a culture that supports both performance and well-being.
* Provide psychological support for players and coaches, facilitating one-to-one and group sessions as required.
* Ensure effective communication and collaboration within the MDT, and educate staff on the effective use of psychological tools and strategies.
* Attend training and match days, providing on-the-ground interventions as necessary.
* Maintain a comprehensive database of work conducted with players and coaches.
* Facilitate feedback and progress review meetings to ensure cultural alignment and performance development.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Women’s Technical Director or Head of Performance Services.
* Work with all levels of staff, players and parents.
Requirements:
* MSc in Sport Psychology or Psychology (or equivalent).
* British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Status, British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Accreditation, or other relevant applied accreditation.
* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or working towards (SEPAR).
* Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative in a high-performance environment.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Strong organisational skills, with a disciplined approach to note-taking and use of technology.
* Ability to engage and motivate players, coaches, and staff in a performance-driven culture.
* Experience in women’s football (Women’s Championship/WSL).
* Experience working within professional football and/or other professional sports.
* Possess qualifications in counselling or counselling skills, with a clear understanding of relationship-building in professional practice.
* Experience within a high-performance sports environment.
