The role
As a Line Mechanic, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the reliability of Waipā Networks’ electricity distribution system. You’ll install, maintain, repair, and replace electrical infrastructure, including overhead lines, underground cables, substations, and associated equipment.
You’ll carry out planned and unplanned work to ensure the network operates safely and efficiently. From performing routine inspections and system upgrades to troubleshooting and resolving faults, your work will directly contribute to delivering reliable power to our customers. You’ll also collaborate with other crews on complex tasks, provide system isolation and switching under direction, and assist with our fault restoration efforts.

What you’ll bring to the role
* At least 2 years’ experience as a Line Mechanic
* A New Zealand Certificate in Electricity Supply LMD (Level 4)
* A current EWRB practising licence
* A Level 5 Live Line (Glove & Barrier) certification (highly advantageous)
* Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
* The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
* A strong commitment to safety and compliance with industry regulations.
Key responsibilities
* Install, maintain, and repair overhead lines, underground cables, substations, and related equipment
* Troubleshoot and resolve electrical faults, ensuring timely restoration of power
* Perform system isolation and switching operations under control room direction
* Adhere to health and safety protocols, conducting risk assessments and ensuring compliance with industry standards
* Collaborate with lines crews and contractors on planned and unplanned work activities
* Complete accurate and timely reporting, including timesheets, incident reports, and equipment records
* Participate in after-hours fault restoration as part of the second call roster.
