Ensure the safe control, custody and administration of all drugs within the perioperative area in accordance with Trust Policies and national legislation. Assist the team leader to effectively manage and lead a multidisciplinary team under pressure in, at times, a highly stressful environment, including emergency situations. At no time should the post holder work outside their defined level of competence. If the post holder has concerns regarding this they should immediately discuss this with their team leader/manager The post holder has the responsibility to inform those supervising their duties if they are not competent to perform a duty. People Management and Development Support in management initiatives as appropriate Provide support to nursing and non-nursing managerial staff. Undertake assessment of practice and supporting learners in practice of nursing training, new staff and learners on pre and post basic education courses and promotes a positive learning environment. Utilise the specialist perioperative documentation to ensure the development and application of research-based practices. Develop own link roles and leadership development of the Band 5 Deputise for the Band 6 on occasion, to co-ordinate as necessary. Demonstrates a positive attitude towards supervision of learners and advises team leader of any difficulties Act as a resource for staff, offer tuition, support and guidance to perioperative staff and students Patient Care Delivery Provide safe and effective care through assessment, planning and implementation to patients pre and post-operatively and assists in the interpretation of data relevant to the patients condition and progress. Assists in the identification and discussion of patient/nursing problems and needs with the patient, their carers, senior nursing staff and other staff as appropriate Identifies realistic goals in care plans Communicates effectively with patients, their carers and with co-workers, liaising with the multidisciplinary team Measures goal achievement with patients, their cares and with co-workers. Changes care plans and goals according to evaluation and discussion with senior nursing staff Ensures patients/carers are taught clinical skills required to enable them to care for themselves at home. Organises own time, equipment and staff to deliver care Administers drugs and treatments as prescribed according to the NMC guidelines and the Trusts Guidelines for the Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines Maintain own clinical knowledge and skills.
