We are seeking to appoint a substantive consultant psychiatrist to join the Mental Health Liaison Team based at Salford Royal Hospital.
This is for an existing post, and the successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team operating a CORE 24 service.
This post is an exciting opportunity to be involved in shaping and modernising mental health services in Greater Manchester.
The Liaison Service receives referrals from Salford Royal Hospital wards and the emergency department. The service accepts referrals of patients of all ages, but the team's consultants only see patients over 16 years old.
The service has a 'can do' attitude and aims to work flexibly and be as helpful as possible. Objectives of the service are to provide high-quality assessments and effective liaison between service providers in the Mental Health Trust and the Acute Hospital Trust.
The service offers comprehensive psychiatric assessment and further management if required while the patient remains an in-patient in Salford Royal Hospital.
The team provides effective liaison between services, including Later Life Services, Acute Adult Psychiatry in-patients, Community Mental Health teams, Home Treatment Service, Emergency Services at Salford Royal, Acute in-patient wards, and elderly care wards.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work alongside the existing consultant liaison psychiatrist. The post holder will be expected to predominantly assess and manage adults of working age (AOWA) admitted to Salford Royal, conduct emergency assessments in the emergency department, and provide consultant input for the intermediate care unit.
There are 2 other substantive Liaison Consultant Psychiatrists within the team. One predominantly works with older age (OA) adults in the most acute areas of the hospital. The other is dual-trained and works across both AOWA and OA. They share responsibility for complex working age patients on the main medical and surgical wards.
The post holder will also be expected to cross-cover for other liaison colleagues, especially for annual leave and exceptional circumstances. The division of referrals of Salford Royal in-patients will depend on who is available to respond within commissioned expected response times.
