Purpose of Role
As the Head of Front End Development, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our digital agency. You will lead a team of talented front-end developers, ensuring they deliver exceptional user experiences through cutting-edge head/headless development.
Key Accountabilities
1. Oversee and mentor a team of front-end developers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
2. Recruit, hire, and train top-tier front-end talent to strengthen the teams capabilities.
3. Set clear goals and expectations, providing regular feedback and performance reviews.
4. Lead front-end development efforts on complex projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results.
5. Collaborate with other ‘Heads of’ and other stakeholders to define and deliver on project requirements and scope.
6. Estimate front-end development timelines and resource needs for projects and new business opportunities.
7. Oversee Front End team project budgets and ensure efficient resource allocation.
8. Drive innovation and explore new technologies to enhance our front-end development capabilities.
9. Stay abreast of emerging trends in headless development and identify opportunities to leverage them.
10. Contribute to the development of innovative front-end solutions that meet client needs and exceed expectations.
Technical Competencies
1. Able to provide technical guidance and support to the team, ensuring they adhere to coding standards and best practices.
2. Ability to architect and design scalable, reusable, and maintainable front-end components and libraries.
3. Successful track record of collaborating with back-end developers to ensure seamless integration between front-end and back-end systems.
4. Experience of working with enterprise level CMS and DXP platforms – ideally Sitecore or Optimizely.
5. Ability to use technical skills and develop high quality front end code – a willingness to be ‘hands-on’.
6. Fully up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in frontend headless development, specifically best practices and development in ReactJS, NextJS, and TypeScript.
7. Experience with server-side rendering (SSR) and static site generation (SSG).
8. Experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux).
9. Familiarity with GraphQL and REST APIs.
10. Proven expertise in ReactJS, NextJS, and TypeScript.
11. Deep understanding of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
12. Experience with testing frameworks and methodologies.
Previous Experience and Skills
1. Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
2. 7+ years of experience in front-end development, with a strong focus on headless architectures.
3. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Ability to lead and motivate a team.
6. Passion for new innovative technologies and AI to drive forward technical excellence.
7. You will have built (personally contributed) to enterprise grade web sites from scratch and delivered creative working digital solutions for web and mobile applications.
