Description
We are currently seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer for Initial Teacher Education - Secondary PGCE Modern languages, who will take responsibility for delivering and developing the modern languages teaching within the Secondary PGCE, along with contributing to other programmes across the School of Education such as CPD and the professional component of the PGCE programme. (This is a part-time 0.6 role)
About the Role
Modern languages is an established PGCE course at Bath Spa University. We recruit groups of students with a range of experiences, specialist skills, and knowledge. You will assist in managing the modern languages program, combining this with academic tutor responsibilities.
This role involves teaching CPD activities, assessing trainees, contributing to recruitment and selection, and fostering school partnerships for placements and mentor training. You will help shape the PGCE course by responding to government initiatives, contributing to inspections, and participating in departmental meetings.
Additional responsibilities include writing references, delivering in-service teacher training, and supporting various professional activities within the Initial Teacher Education Department.
About You
You will have QTS, an appropriate degree and recent experience of working in a school or other educational provider is essential, along with extensive experience of Secondary school modern languages teaching of the school curriculum and linked pedagogies relating to 11-18 age phase.
You will have experience of developing curriculum and managing resources in your subject specialism. You will also have knowledge and understanding of wider generic issues in education and of the changing landscape of Teacher Education.
With a commitment to student-centred learning, you will bring excellent ICT skills, including expertise in e-learning tools, and a demonstrable interest in pedagogic innovation. Energetic, creative, and solution-focused, you will work collaboratively to promote best practices in teaching and learning. The postholder will sometimes be required to work unsociable hours including Open events for prospective candidates, and some early starts and late returns on school visits.
