Main duties of the job
The preferred candidate will provide visible, effective leadership across maternity services.
They will lead multi-disciplinary training and support clinical education within the Trust. The successful candidate will design and deliver innovative learning environments and training programmes.
The chosen candidate will work closely with the Lead for Maternity Education, Matrons, Ward Managers, and Clinical Governance Lead to provide a coordinated programme of educational activities that creates a positive and supportive learning culture.

Job responsibilities
To work collaboratively with the senior team to implement and deliver multi-disciplinary obstetric mandatory training, assist in the clinical audit programme for the directorate, lead on Midwifery audit, review national, regional and local guidelines/reports to ensure changes to practice are embedded.
These will include:
1. Develop a training needs analysis for ongoing midwifery clinical development.
2. Develop, coordinate and facilitate annual mandatory update days for midwives and RNs and HCA/MSW.
3. Teach all aspects of the mandatory update day (in the absence of visiting speakers) as and when required.
4. Provide clinically based education to midwives as required.
5. Precept newly qualified midwives.
6. Work alongside midwives within the clinical environments.
7. Have a visible presence in the clinical area and work clinically as required by the demands of the unit.
8. Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the training and development programme for Maternity Support Workers.
9. Maintain knowledge of current best practice based on National Guidance/research and share this with colleagues.
10. Undertake systematic literature searches using health related databases, the Intranet and any other relevant information sources (e.g. NSFs, NICE guidelines, maternal mortality report and perinatal mortality reports).
11. Undertake data collection using a variety of methods.
12. Undertake data analysis and assist with the production of audit reports and training.
13. Present project findings to clinical teams and committees/forums as appropriate.
14. To liaise closely with the department and Trust Risk management and governance team in meeting the divisional targets in relation to the NHSLA Maternity Standards.
15. To provide support to the Maternity risk and Governance Manager to achieve delivery of NHSLA maternity standards training requirements, publish regular newsletters updating staff on training, audit and changes to practice.
16. To develop, and systematically implement and deliver a varied and interesting mandatory training programme including obstetric emergency skill drills programme to include in-house fire drills which support frontline delivery of care.
17. Review changes to midwifery practice nationally and advise the senior midwifery team accordingly and ensure changes to midwifery practice are cascaded within well-organised training with information communicated to all relevant clinical teams.
18. To maintain and interrogate the Maternity training database compiling data reports summarising training needs analysis and attendance reports to relevant departmental and divisional governance committees.
19. To provide clinical and educational support for all levels of midwifery, medical and support staff working collaboratively with their relevant trainers and line managers.
20. Establish and maintain a learning environment across the service.
21. Create an environment in which individuals take ownership of their professional development.
22. Represent the professional interests of the maternity service at educational events deputising where required to discuss educational issues interagency/provider/disciplinary forums/links with University providers.
