Full-Time Job: Sport Management
This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with our community and have a significant impact on the experience of our Lessans Camp JCC participants. Swim Staff are responsible for instructing swim lessons, with the guidance of the Aquatics Director, to Lessans Camp JCC campers while actively supervising children within the guidelines set by the Bender JCC of Greater Washington.
Job Description
* Supervision and Engagement
o Supervise and engage with all participants (ages 4-21) in programs and activities while under the position’s care.
o Ensure Leadership Team and all staff, including Shomrim (watchers), are diligently monitoring safety of campers while in the water.
o Identify and report any hazardous and unsafe conditions at the pool.
* Leadership and Professional Development
o Teach Swim Staff how to use source/platform and ensure all reports are being completed fully and appropriately.
o Teach instructional swim lessons using the American Red Cross Learn to Swim curriculum, as needed.
o Teach staff and campers about expected behavior during pool time and appropriate use of equipment.
o Effectively motivate and delegate responsibilities to Swim Staff.
o Demonstrate emerging leadership skills while assisting with leading the group.
* Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served, interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations, appropriately model behavior, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control, and use positive behavior-management techniques.
* Preparation, Planning, and Organization
o Prepare and implement orientation week training for Swim Staff with the Aquatics Director.
o Assist in daily set up and clean-up of teaching areas and instructional equipment before campers arrive and at the end of the day.
* Communication and Attendance
o Attend pre-camp meetings including Leadership Team and other scheduled meetings.
o Attend all required sessions, orientations, staff meetings, late stays, and trips planned for the group(s).
o Assist with tracking staff attendance.
+ Complete Swimgen or equivalent source for each camper at the end of each session.
Salary is determined based on experience including previous experience at Lessans Camp JCC. Current educators, relevant degree, and advanced certification bonuses available.
Qualifications
* Ability to swim.
* Ability to get into the pool and supervise activities.
* Ability to physically assist campers in and out of the pool.
* Access to a device larger than a phone with reliable internet access for virtual orientation, meetings, and potential virtual programming.
* Ability to take initiative to solve problems and be willing to seek assistance in solving problems.
* Must be able to spend an extended period of time outdoors and in the pool.
* Ability to move equipment and supplies as required.
* Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
* Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
* Knowledge of American Red Cross swim guidelines.
* Prior experience working with school-aged campers of all abilities.
* Prior swim instruction experience preferred.
* Be accepting of, and sensitive to the diverse racial, national, sexual orientation, gender identity, abilities, religious and cultural backgrounds of everyone at Lessans Camp JCC.
* Willingness to be flexible and adapt to changes in schedule, responsibilities, and Lessans Camp JCC activities as needed.
Priority is given to candidates who are available for the entire camp season starting on June 16 going through August 8.
