These values are frequently referred to; they show up in our marketing and in the way we treat our students. They can be used on a daily basis as a reference when approaching a situation, when talking to stakeholders, when you're not sure what to do, when needing inspiration, and when recruiting new team members. These values make up our DNA.
WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM A STUDENT WELFARE OFFICER (SWO)?
Bayswater operates a strict safer recruitment policy and all staff will have checks on their suitability to work with children.
1. All applicants will be required to supply an up-to-date CV (any gaps in employment history must be explained satisfactorily) and the contact details of 2 suitable referees (current or former employers) which will be checked prior to employment. The referees will be asked specifically about your suitability to work with children.
2. All employees will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check unless they provide details of their DBS Update Service subscription. Appropriate local police checks will be required from applicants living overseas or having lived or worked overseas in the last 3 years.
3. All employees will be expected to provide proof of identity, address, and all relevant qualifications (originals only) – copies will be taken for our records.
As a Student Welfare Officer, you will be responsible for the pastoral care of students, including wake-up and curfew duties, supervision of mealtimes, collecting students/groups from airports, conducting room checks, and assisting with various admin tasks under the guidance of the Accommodation and Welfare Manager. A typical day can be long, but when the students are enjoying themselves, it can be extremely rewarding with a positive atmosphere.
Depending on student numbers, you may also be required to help with the social programme alongside the Activity Leaders. This can include the following types of activities: sports, arts & crafts, quizzes, discos, local visits, and excursions. The timings of lessons, activities, and meals will vary from centre to centre depending upon the number of students and facilities available.
Below you’ll find a typical day on the Summer camp. But don't worry, Student Welfare Officers won’t work every meal duty and curfew; they’ll be evenly delegated across the team over the course of the week by the Accommodation and Welfare Manager.
