About the role:
As Deputy CEO at MEC, you will work alongside the Chief Executive Officer to shape the strategic direction and oversee the day-to-day management of our charity. Your role will involve leading key projects, driving business development, and securing funding through bid writing and other initiatives. As a key representative of MEC, you will build and nurture strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and funders to further our mission.
MEC is currently undergoing a strategic review to redefine its purpose and ensure we stay in tune with the changing needs of the community and the environment. This process will guide the future direction of the charity, enhancing our impact and helping us tackle new challenges. As Deputy CEO, you will play a vital role in this transformation, collaborating closely with the CEO and team to assess current priorities, identify new opportunities, and implement a refreshed strategy. Your leadership and expertise will be crucial in helping MEC navigate this exciting phase and position itself for continued success.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
1. Assist the CEO in developing and implementing the charity's strategic plan.
2. Lead on specific strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with MEC’s vision and goals.
3. Represent the CEO when required, including attending key meetings and events.
Operational Management
1. Lead on bid writing to secure funding for projects from a variety of sources, including government grants, trusts, foundations, and corporate partnerships.
2. Provide leadership and guidance to Project Managers and support staff to deliver high-quality programs and services.
3. Monitor and evaluate project outcomes, ensuring they meet agreed objectives and funding requirements.
4. Support financial management processes, including budget planning and oversight.
5. Ensure compliance with reporting and accountability requirements related to secured funds.
Stakeholder Engagement:
1. Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, businesses, community groups, and other partners.
2. Act as an ambassador for MEC, promoting its mission and projects to a broad audience.
3. Represent MEC in external forums, conferences, and networking opportunities to increase visibility and collaboration.
4. Work with the CEO and Board of Trustees to ensure adherence to governance policies and procedures.
5. Assist with preparing reports and presentations for board meetings.
6. Alongside the CEO, act as a key point of contact for all funding related communications and negotiations with prospective partners and funders.
7. Lead or contribute to presentations, meetings, and pitches to potential funders and partners.
Personal Specification – Essential Criteria:
1. Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a nonprofit, charity, or public sector organisation.
2. Demonstrated expertise in bid writing and securing funding from diverse sources.
3. Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, compelling, and persuasive reports.
4. Strong understanding of sustainability, environmental issues, community development and social justice.
5. Exceptional organisational, project management, and multitasking skills.
6. Experience managing stakeholder relationships and influencing decision makers.
