The Economic Security and Supply Chain Resilience Directorate is responsible for working across Government to strengthen critical supply chains to improve the UK’s economic security and resilience. The Economic Security and Supply Chain Resilience Directorate works closely with departments to identify critical supply chain vulnerabilities to define strategies and policies for mitigating risks and improving resilience. Supply Chains Insights & Analysis
The Supply Chain Insights & Analysis team is a multi-disciplinary analytical team that sits in the Economic Security and Supply Chain Resilience Directorate. The team acts as a core analytical function for the directorate alongside two other G6 analytical teams, providing high quality and timely monitoring and analysis on critical supply chains. The main functions of the team include mapping critical supply chains, analysing supply chain vulnerabilities and criticality, assessing the impacts of disruptive events and cross-cutting issues on critical supply chains, and operating and developing tools to monitor supply chain risks.
The Role
This role will be responsible for supporting the Government’s Industrial Strategy and Growth Mission by jointly leading on analytical elements supporting DBT to better understand priority sectors, their associated goods and vulnerabilities and identifying and mitigating supply chain risks. You will lead quantitative and qualitative economic analysis using various sources and engagements to assess new and existing supply chains. You will also oversee the directorate’s monitoring and evaluation workstream.
Reporting directly to the Head of Supply Chains Insights & Analysis (Grade 6), the postholder will work closely with the other analytical teams within the Supply Chains Insights & Analysis team on various activities including supply chain mapping, vulnerability & criticality assessments, and monitoring. Alongside working closely with policy teams and industry to better understand and build knowledge around supply chains and identify areas to build greater resilience. The postholder will be responsible for the line management of 1x SEO Data Scientist, 1x SEO social researcher and 1x Fast Stream Statistician.
Reporting directly to the Head of Supply Chains Insights & Analysis team (Grade 6), day-to-day activities include, but are not limited to:
* Leading work to assess supply chains of key sectors and goods to understand areas of risk, carrying out criticality and vulnerability assessments alongside supply chain mapping work using DBT’s data-driven analytical frameworks and tools.
* Lead the team to deliver supply chain mapping outputs in support of the Industrial Strategy, Growth Mission and UK resilience. This will involve working closely with data scientists to map the supply chains of products that are highlighted through the strategy.
* Assess and present potential diversification options and areas for building greater supply chain resilience, exploring options such as onshoring, friendshoring and stockpiling.
* Lead on research and longer-term economic analysis to better understand the impacts of global shocks and disruptions on critical supply chains. This will include increasing understanding of geopolitical, transport and climate shocks on supply chains and supply chain resilience.
* Champion and lead innovative research working closely with data scientists in DBT to identify new tools and capabilities to fill evidence gaps.
* Foster collaboration with academic partners focused on supply chains analysis and research, working closely with the other G7s in the team.
* Overseeing the directorate’s monitoring and evaluation function by working closely with the private office team to construct and implement a monitoring and evaluation plan for the directorate, offering useful and timely outputs.
* Provide inspiring leadership and effective management of direct reports, creating a supportive environment which supports their development.
Communicating, presenting and championing the work of the team in bilateral international engagements and in international forums.
