This role is potentially hybrid, but as it is a developmental role, we encourage all our Apprentices to be onsite as often as possible, especially during the first few months.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.
UKAEA's Apprenticeship Scheme will allow you to gain the technical knowledge, practical experience, and wider skills and behaviours needed for your immediate job role and future career. The successful apprentice will gain this through the combination of formal off-the-job training and the opportunity to apply these skills in a real work environment through on-the-job training.
The Role
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As a Degree Apprentice Mechanical Engineer, you will experience a broad range of placements to give you an appreciation of multiple disciplines and complement the academic learning delivered by the university. Additional training courses will be completed to provide the required skills to complete project tasks during the placements.
You will be embedded within project teams and will contribute, from day 1, to the success of the project, whether it be ITER, DEMO, STEP or another project relevant to the UKAEA mission. A mixture of hands-on and desk-based work is expected, and you should be versatile and willing to engage with the whole project teams.
* Attend designated training provider, develop and attain a good knowledge of technical skills.
* Represent the UKAEA Organisation and attend external outreach and careers events.
Minimum Requirements:
* 5 GCSEs A*-C (9-4) including Maths and English.
* Alternative Engineering Vocational Level 3 Qualification (90 credit Units, 540 GLH) accepted such as BTEC L3.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrate an interest and aptitude for chosen area of work.
