Purpose of Position: Under the direction of the Physician, perform radiographic procedures and assist the radiologist in conducting diagnostic examinations requested by physicians, by applying ionizing radiation to patients, taking and developing radiographic film in a manner consistent with prescribed radiation protection safety standards.
Description:
1. Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures operating radiographic and other equipment/devices as appropriate.
1. Moves x-ray equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors.
2. Processes radiographs as applicable.
2. Positions patient on examination table and adjusts immobilization devices as required to obtain optimum views of specified area of the body requested by physician as determined by department policy and procedure.
3. Receives and reviews requests for radiological studies. Provides explanation of procedures and answers pertinent questions of patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
4. Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures to ensure safety and comfort while preparing for and while undergoing radiographic procedures.
5. Applies principles of radiographic protection using beam restriction devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors, to minimize radiation to patients and staff.
6. Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and/or modifying established procedures, to assure timely completion of work in conformance with department policies and procedures.
1. Evaluates radiographs for technical quality.
2. Maintains adequate radiology records and labels all radiographs to assure proper identification.
3. Assists physician with administration of radiographic contrast media or its direct administration if trained and sanctioned by the radiologist.
7. Maintains a thorough knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and Procedures as they pertain to the job, including the fire and disaster plans. Complies with Infection Control policies and procedures.
8. Participates in activities which promote professional self-growth and development; meeting minimum requirements for continuing education as directed by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists and Massachusetts State Licensing.
9. Maintains an ethical relationship with patients, physicians, personnel, and guests and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
10. Performs other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications:
* High school graduate or equivalent;
* Graduate of Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (AMA) Accredited Radiography Program, or equivalent;
* Valid Massachusetts State License.
* CPR within 3 months of position start date.
