Overview
A leading Lloyd's Syndicate is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) to oversee its Irish and DAC operations in Dublin. This high-impact role will drive the growth of underwriting operations, with a focus on optimising market opportunities, setting underwriting guidelines, and ensuring risk management compliance within Lloyd’s framework. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in establishing the company’s footprint in the Irish and European markets, utilizing expertise in underwriting, team leadership, and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities
* Leadership & Strategy : Define and implement underwriting strategy, ensuring alignment with business growth and profitability goals in the Irish market and DAC region. Lead underwriting teams, setting performance standards and KPIs.
* Market Expansion : Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the Irish market, leveraging market insights and trends to grow the Syndicate's presence in the region. Collaborate closely with Lloyd’s brokers, Irish clients, and other stakeholders.
* Risk Management & Compliance : Maintain high standards of underwriting discipline, ensuring adherence to Lloyd's regulatory standards and local market regulations. Collaborate with the risk and compliance teams to support a robust governance framework.
* Team Development : Lead and mentor the underwriting team, fostering a collaborative and performance-driven culture. Develop team capabilities to achieve operational excellence and meet business objectives.
* Portfolio Management : Oversee underwriting portfolio performance, including analyzing results, adjusting underwriting practices, and ensuring optimal portfolio diversification. Monitor and report on profitability, risk exposure, and claims.
Key Requirements
* Extensive experience in underwriting, with a background in Lloyd’s Syndicate or equivalent insurance environment
* Strong knowledge of the Irish insurance market and DAC operations, with experience managing regulatory requirements in these regions
* Demonstrated track record of leading and growing underwriting teams
* Analytical mindset with strong financial acumen and an understanding of portfolio management
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships across markets and teams
